The dark ginger leader known as Torchstar padded out onto the StreamClan hunting grounds. His luminous yellow eyes followed the trail in front of him, as his tail swayed lazily back and fourth. He was taking Snowpaw out battle-training today, knowing she was ready to start learning.
Glancing over his shoulder, Torchstar saw the white furred she-cat following behind. Looking forward again, the ginger tom disappeared into the tall grass. He could hear the rustleing of the prey within the grassy grove, but ignored it, there was a time for hunting later.
He entered into a wide open space, plenty of room for both Snowpaw and him to practice. He turned around and sat; eyes focusing on the spot where the white she-cat would be entering from. His ears twitched as he heard the sound of crunching grass beneath paws, knowing Snowpaw had arrived.

Snowpaw followed him, though she fell behind easily, her shorter legs prevented her from moving as fast as her tall leader. The grassy clearing was pretty simple, it had really tall grass over our heads so we could train as if we couldn't see, we had to use our other senses. It was a pretty smart method, it made them better night hunters so they stood a chance against ScorchClan.
She closed her eyes, trying to get in touch with her other senses, she had been here a few times, only older apprentices with enough fighting skills came here, to take on a warrior that they couldn't see. She knew the deal, she had to hunt down Torchstar and pin him. Luckily it was still early enough, just past dawn, she could use her vision and easily spot the sunlight reflecting off Torchstar's ginger pelt. But that would be taking a shortcut. She could hear the ever so slightly crunch of the grass as he moved around the grassy area. She could tell he was behind her, trickster.

Upon hearing Snowpaw, the tabby made a quick move to get out of sight before she came up. He wanted to test her senses, just to see how good she really was.
Torchstar prowled into the tall grass once more, and circled widely around where he saw Snowpaw's thick white fur. His yellow eyes narrowed as he went on light paw steps toward the back of her. Sure to any other warrior, the tom would be a piece of mouse to hear coming. But for young apprentices like Snowpaw, he wanted to make sure she was alert, even if he hadn't informed her of his motives.
Snowpaw is a bright young she-cat, I'm sure she'll be able to notice me. She does have her mother's keen sense of smell... The young leader winced slightly at the thought of the young she-cat's deceased mother. She knew Snowpaw never knew her, but he had. She was such a gentle warrior, a sad loss for Streamclan.
Eyes having glazed over, Torchstar shook his head, sending the grass blades around him shaking. He let out a silent hiss. Great..she's sure to have heard me now. The tom thought, as he focused back on stalking up on Snowpaw.
His back leg muscles tensed up as he prepared to tackle and pin his apprentice to the ground. He was directly behind her now.

Snowpaw's head whipped around, her eyes flickering open quickly, her ears pricked. She heard the grass movement, she had to pin him, she hadn't yet, and she had to... she wanted to become a warrior so badly! Snowpaw lifted up her big white furred paws and turning around carefully, facing... she though, the direction Torchstar was. She was pretty sure of her decision, she faced what used to be her back.

Torchstar saw the blue orbs of Snowpaw's when she turned around to face him. Good, she has good hearing. he thought, ears flattened back now as he tried to act like he was a ScorchClan warrior ready to attack.
"Try to dodge this!" He hissed, as he shot foward, aiming for Snowpaw's shoulder. He was going to pin her if she wasn't quick enough, but he hoped she knew which way to move so she would avoid that.
His claws were sheltered of course as he came within inches of touching Snowpaw.

Snowpaw knew she had no time to spare, warriors don't think, well... they did, but not right now, they act, she thought. She let out a fierce hiss, her ears going from pricked to flattened to the bottom of her skull. She could feel her leg muscles bunch us ever so quickly, and she flew to the left of her.
Her lips curved up in a smile as she just barely dodged her leader. She looked down, her sharp silver claws had come out, ready for attack. She turned to face her mentor, an evil smile on her lips. "That the best you got?" She challenged, her big bright blue eyes flaring like flames. [/blockquote]

Torchstar landed with a light thud as he hit empty ground. He swung around quickly to face Snowpaw.
A small grin showed as he spoke, "Not bad." He then darted back into the tall grass, out of view from his apprentice.
"I'm not even beyond finished dear Snowpaw." he chimed aloud, moveing swiftly around the blades of grass. good with speed, but how is she with tactic? he thought curoiusly, as he moved like a shadow in the night, making sure to keep low, his ginger pelt would give away his position oh too easily, but not as much as Snowpaw's! He could see her fur from a mile away, she would have to use her stand out pelt to good use, even in battle.
His yellow orbs glowed as he moved out of range from his apprentice. It was time for her to find him, before he found her.

Course your not done. If that's all the Clan leader can throw at an apprentice then that's nothing. But Torchstar was smarter then that. She wasted no time once he was in the grass once more. She jumped in the grass beside her. Her white pelt might be giving her a disadvantage now, but she couldn't wait til it was snowing and everything was white! She would love to see him find her then!
Snowpaw pressed her body hard against the cold ground. It was the best chance she had staying away from Torchstar's yellow gaze. She kept her tail just slightly off the ground, careful not to stirr up any grass. She crept about like a snake, ready to strike. She narrowed her blue eyes into thin slits, trying to find any sign of dark ginger. Not seeing anything, she made her way to the outer area of the grass, then slid out, coming into the clearing. She kept herself pressed to the ground though, she wasn't safe yet.

Torchstar slithered back toward the center of the tall grass, his mouth parted to taste the air. A breeze blew by, carrying Snowpaw's scent. His yellow eyes narrowed as he saw a blurr of white fur in the distant near the clearing. Why get back in the clearing? He wondered, as he stalked back toward her, watching her blue eyes, knowing if she saw him coming, he would have to act quickly.
His tail stayed low as he came closer and closer, ears prickled up as he heard for any other sound of movement around him.

Snowpaw's plan had worked like she hoped. Come on! Just a bit closer! she though, watching the dark ginger leader. She open her mouth, letting the scents flood in... Torchstar, StreamClan, prey, grass... ScorchClan... She looked north, towards the ScorchClan border, she hoped they weren't planning anything... But the breeze was coming downwards, it was probably just that. She focused her attention back on Torchstar, she could no longer find him. She hissed lightly, mad that she let him get away. Torchstar paused as he caught the whiff of ScorchClan on his tounge. His eyes narrowed breifly as he wondered what those blood-thirsty rogues were up to. He was hopeful that they stayed on their side of the border for now. It was much too soon to start an battle with them, now that prey is so scarch, it would be a horrible time for StreamClan to be under attack.
Focusing back on training, Torchstar picked up the pace as he saw Snowpaw's eyes on him, switching direction fast so she wouldn't see where he had gone. It seemed that his apprentice had been looking over somewhere before he had moved. Every cat's worried about what ScorchClan is to do. Torchstar thought gravely, his fur prickling.
Coming around widely, Torchstar reached the opening of the clearing and was coming at Snowpaw yet again from the side. He was ready to pounce now, his ears fully facing toward her and his tail lashing. He wouldn't give her a signal this time, she would just have to know he was about to strike.

Snowpaw spun around, not even bothering if he saw her now, he probably had the whole time, anyway. She hissed, ears flattened, claws in, she didn't want to hurt Torchstar, but she tackled him. Trying to pin him, it was hard, since he was twice her size. She hissed as she tried to pin him, failing. "Mouse dung!" She growled.

Torchstar recoiled slightly as Snowpaw came on him so fast. woah! fast one she is. Quickly recovering though, Torchstar was amused at how his apprentice was trying to pin him down.
Almost with no thought at all, the StreamClan leader pushed her down with one ginger paw and made it so he was now pinning her with both, belly over belly now. His size was much bigger, and much heavier, but he knew Snowpaw could figure a way out of this.
"What do you do when a cat has you pinned?" He asked close to her ear as he kept a firm hold on her. His tail kept low as he stared down at Snowpaw, eyes firm, yet holding an amusment only Torchstar could show in a situation like this.

A devilious smile crossed her face, then she shook her head slightly, no no! Torchstar was wearing on her! she thought annoyed with herself. Then she got back to reality. "You bat at their belly!" She said, batting her hind paws at his belly, claws in, if they were out and he were an enemy warrior his belly would be all scratched by now. After scractching his belly she sqirmed out from under him, shaking her white fur, meeting his yellow gaze.

Torchstar admired his apprentices' spunk, but hoped she wouldn't get too carried away and get off task.
He circled Snowpaw after she had squirmed out of his pin, tail flicking back and fourth. "Very nice, but you could have also used your legs to kick me off." He meowed to her, eyes glittering with amusment as he kept a steady pace.
"Show me what else you got." He told her as he kept his eyes fixed on what her next move would be. "I need to see what you already know." He added, smirking slightly as he lowered slightly to the ground, in defensive position.

Snowpaw focused on what she had learned... upright lock wouldn't be useful... teeth grip he would easily counter-attack... but the leap-and-hold might be just right she thought, looking at Torchstar.
The leap-and-hold was an ideal battle move for smaller cats facing a rather larger opponent. She had it all planned in her head. She would spring forwards, jumping on his back, generally with other cats from different Clans you could rip up their whole back, but this was merly training. But from up their Torchstar wouldn't be able to touch her, and she would have full attacking range of his back. But Torchstar's counter would probably get her, the drop-and-roll would knock her off and she would have to be quick and avoid his back before being squashed.
She lept at him, getting ready to take over his back. [/blockquote]

Torchstar's eyes flashed as he saw Snowpaw make a move. He rolled out of the way before she had a chance to even touch him. He had a thought she would try and jump on his back, the ol' leap-and-hold technique, but Torchstar had been quicker in actions. He spun back around and faced her. "You'll have to be quicker than that!" he growled, trying to get her to get in this fight.
"Imagine I'm a ScorchClan warrior, ready to rip your fur off." He hissed, ears pressed back against his head now, and teeth baring. He took a step toward Snowpaw, looking threatening as his fur bristled. He'd have to make her feel as if she really were about to get shredded to bits, because if he had been a real enemy just then, he probably would have had her pinned down and yowling in pain.
His yellow eyes were luminious against the rising sun as his deep ginger pelt stood out like a dark fire. His tail swished back and fourth by his side as he took one more step toward her. "Now come at me again!" He demanded, as he stared into her icy blue eyes daringly.

Snowpaw didn't turn away from Torchstar's threatening gaze, she faced it with her bright blue eyes. They turned from strong and blue to icey and cold. She could feel her muscles tighten, growing tension. She could feel her ears slowly get pressed to her head, and her mouth slowly opening, her lips curling up, baring her shinny white teeth.
All in a few quick heartbeats she didn't look like a training apprentice anymore, but a fierce, warrior, ready to defend her Clan with her life. Her knees bunched up, preparing her muscles, making her pressed to the cold earth. And all in a few more heartbeats she launched herself at Torchstar, her claws would be unsheathed if Torchstar were really ScorchClan, she was tempted to shred him, he seemed like he was ScorchClan right now. With every force she had, she raked her paw down the side of his face, following through down his chest. That would be a fight-stopper. But she couldn't relax because she got a blow in. She ducked and rolled to the side of Torchstar. [/blockquote]

Torchstar barely had time to act as Snowpaw came at her so swiftly. He let out a short hiss as he felt the paw go across his cheek and down to his chest.
Reacting now, Torchstar sent a paw flying her way sheltered claws missing her face by whiskers as he saw her duck and roll. "Nice!" he complimented as he ducked down low once more, and lunged at her from the side, swiping a paw down her flank lightly and bouncing back up.
He jumped over her lower back and landed at her other side, hoping to confuse her. His breath came out in small huffs as he prepared to head-butt her down.

"I learned from the best!" Snowpaw hissed playfully, after rolling away from rolling away from Torchstar's blow. She jumped back as soon as his paw swept over her flank, in a battle that would leave deep gash marks.
She looked up as Torchstar flew over her, she quickly re-positioned herself just in time for his next move. But she didn't give him time. She flew herself at him, at first in a run but then her paws left the earth. She landed on top of him this time. She raked her paws along his back, claws sheathed. [/blockquote]
